Welcome to the Stillman College Online Application
|
Admission Procedures
- Answer all applicable sections completely.
- Sign and date the application agreement statement that you will print after you submit your application.
- Mail the application agreement statement with the nonrefundable $25 application fee to admissions office.
- Request that all official transcripts, test scores (ACT or SAT I), and two letters of recommendation be mailed to the admissions office.
The college reserves the right to deny admission or readmission to students with health or other problems that interfere with the peace and order of the campus or that it does not have resources to manage.
A graduate of high school approved by a recognized accrediting agency must present a transcript showing at least 24 high school units, which include 4 in English and 1 each in history, mathematics, and science, and an official graduation date.
Students from states with different requirements will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Transfer Students
Students who transfer to Stillman College from another institution must have on file an application for admissions that lists all colleges and universities previously attended.
Any failure to provide such information is grounds for separation from Stillman.
Official transcripts from all colleges/universities previously attended must be requested by the student to be forwarded directly to the Office of Admissions.
A decision on admission will be made after a thorough evaluation of the student's record to determine how many hours can be accepted in transfer.
For purposes of clarification, transferability refers to the conditions under which the college accepts credits from other postsecondary institutions.
Awarding of transfer credits will be based on applicability of the credits to the requirements of the degree sought and/or the comparability of transfer credits to the college's curriculum.
Credit hours are awarded for courses with a minimum grade of C; however, no quality points will be awarded for transfer credits.
International Students
Stillman College is authorized under federal law to enroll nonimmigrant students.
International students are advised to inquire about necessary tests at least one year in advance of the anticipated date of admission.
To apply to Stillman, international students must submit the following materials by March 1 for the fall semester, August 1 for spring semester, and February 1 for the summer term:
- An application for admission accompanied by a $25 application fee in U.S. dollars in the form of a money order or certified check made payable to Stillman College; cash should not be sent.
- Official certificates and/or final secondary school records, university transcripts, mark sheets, official translations, and syllabi.
Courses taken at universities abroad must meet standards that are approved by organizations located in the U.S. who are qualified to render such decisions.
- Results from the SAT I or ACT.
- Scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants whose native language is not English.
Applicants must be prepared to sponsor themselves.
International students, other than those who are awarded scholarship significant enough to cover fees, must place on deposit at Stillman in U.S. funds the cost of one year's tuition fees.
The U.S. Department of Justice's Immigration and Naturalization Service Rules governing nonimmigrant "F-1" foreign students require that all persons in this category pursue a full course of study.
This means that undergraduates must register for a minimum of 12 credits.
Any modification of this requirement that results in a course load less that this minimum must be authorized by the director of admissions.
Failure to observe these requirements will cause students to be ineligible to receive the I-20 form to support their nonimmigrant status.
Early Admissions
High school students with a 3.30 grade point average (4.00 scale) may be permitted to begin college work at Stillman before graduation from high school.
Students selected for early admissions will receive regular college credit for courses successfully completed.
In addition to the grade point average, the prospective student must be recommended by his/her school guidance counselor or other high school officials who are qualified to attest to his/her eligibility.
Readmission
After any interruption other than summer session, a student must apply for readmission.
An application from a student in good standing at the time of discontinuance or separation will be processed, as are all other applications for regular admission.
A student returning after an interruption will be asked to adhere to the requirements of the catalog in effect on the date of reentry.
A student who has been suspended from the college for academic deficiencies may petition the Admission Committee for readmission to the college.
A student who is reinstated after suspension and who incurs academic probation on two occasions will be permanently suspended.
Non-Degree/Special Students
Stillman College may admit students on a non-degree basis.
Such students must satisfactorily demonstrate to the director of admissions qualities that will reasonably assure their success in selected courses.
Financial aid through the college's financial aid program is not available during the period when a student is classified as special.
Should such students wish to matriculate at the college toward a degree, all applicable admission criteria must be met, including transcripts, GED, and ACT or SAT I scores.
Upon completion of 15 hours or credit coursework, non-degree/special students are subject to regular academic requirements.
Special students will not be accorded the privilege of participation in intercollegiate athletics or other student activities.
They will be subjected to the same rules and regulations governing scholarships, class attendance, conduct, and health as regular students.
Transient Students
A student currently enrolled in another institution of higher education who desires to take courses to be transferred to that institution will be eligible to register upon presentation of an application for admission and a "letter of transiency" signed by the dean and/or designated school official.
Such students are not required to file transcripts of their previously earned credits at other postsecondary institutions.
A student may not be classified as transient for more than one session or semester in succession, and must fulfill all requirements of the regular transfer student if he/she returns for the next consecutive semester.
Auditor
Applicants who wish to audit credit courses must follow standard admission procedures, register for the course(s), pay all required fees, are expected to attend all class meetings, and must conform to all requirements of the instructor of the course, but will not receive a grade.
Academic Renewal Policy
Any student who is readmitted to Stillman College after an absence of at least six consecutive semesters may apply for academic renewal.
After readmission, the student must:
- Complete, in satisfactory academic standing, at least 12 credit hours (but not more than 24 credit hours) in Stillman College courses.
- Submit a petition for academic renewal to the Office of Academic Affairs.
If the petition for academic renewal is approved, academic renewal is effective as of the date of readmission and is not reversible.
Subsequent calculations of the student's grade point average are based solely on the courses taken after the date of readmission.
All Stillman course taken prior to the readmission will remain unaltered on the academic record and, in the case of each non-remedial course where a grade of D or higher was obtained, will count toward the total number of credits required for graduation.
A minimum of 42 credit hours in residence must be earned to qualify for graduation after academic renewal is granted.
Students granted academic renewal are ineligible for degrees with distinction.
Admission by Examination
Students unable to present a high school transcript may be permitted to enroll in the college provided they earn an acceptable score on the General Educational Development Test of the American Council on Education.
The minimum passing score is 40 for each area and an overall score of 45.
