Beginning freshmenWho: Applicants who have never enrolled in an accredited college or university. Applicants may apply the summer prior to the senior year of high school.
What to do:
- Ask your high school to mail your official transcript directly to UAB Undergraduate Admission. (If you are applying for admission early, you can send a transcript after your junior year. If accepted, you must send a final official transcript upon graduation.)
- Ask the appropriate testing agency to send your official ACT or SAT score report directly to UAB Undergraduate Admission.
- If you have earned a General Equivalency Diploma (GED), submit your official test scores to UAB. Applicants with a GED must be at least 19 years old.
Transfer and postbaccalaureateWho: Applicants who have previously enrolled in an accredited college or university.
What to do:
- Ask each college you have attended to send official transcripts directly to UAB Undergraduate Admission. (If you are currently attending another college or university, UAB may make an admission decision with one term pending. UAB will require a final transcript at the conclusion of your coursework.)
- Applicants with less than 24 semester hours/36 quarter hours of transferable college credit must also satisfy requirements for beginning freshmen and submit the credentials listed in that section.
Former UAB StudentsWho: Applicants who have not enrolled at UAB in more than one year, applicants who have attended another regionally accredited institution since attending UAB, and/or students who have graduated from UAB.
What to do:
- Ask each institution you have attended (except UAB) to send your official transcript directly to UAB Undergraduate Admission.
International applicantsWho: Anyone who is not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
What to do:
- Provide proof of academic, linguistic, and financial qualifications. For complete details, contact UAB Undergraduate Admission or visit www.uab.edu/apply.
TemporaryWho: Applicants seeking personal enrichment or career enhancement opportunities.
What to do:
- You must be at least 25 years old to apply as a temporary student.
- Submit an official letter of good standing if you have attended any college within the last year.
Note: Temporary students are admitted to UAB’s Division of General Studies and can enroll for a total of 12 semester hours with a maximum of 4 semester hours each term. Enrollment beyond 12 hours requires either the approval of a General Studies advisor and proof of high school graduation OR a change in status to a degree-seeking student.
TransientWho: Applicants who want to transfer credit earned at UAB back to their home institutions (where they are enrolled).What to do:
- Submit an official letter of good standing from your home institution.
Note: Transient student enrollment typically lasts for one term, with a maximum of two consecutive terms. If your transient enrollment is not in consecutive terms, you must submit a letter of good standing for each term you enroll at UAB. If you have not enrolled at UAB for three or more terms, you must reapply.
PostbaccalaureateWho: Applicants with a baccalaureate degree who wish to meet prerequisites for advanced programs or satisfy requirements for professional certification.What to do:
- The program of study you request may have special admission requirements, and some academic units may need to approve you before you can be considered for admission. Contact UAB Undergraduate Admission to see if you need to supply academic documents.
Concurrent enrollment and dual enrollment/dual creditWho: Exceptional high school students may apply prior to graduation if they can prove that enrolling at UAB will enhance their educational experiences beyond what is available in high school.
Apply for concurrent enrollment to take courses for college credit while you are enrolled as a junior or senior in high school. You will be a nondegree-seeking UAB student.
Apply for dual enrollment/dual credit to take courses for college and high school credit while you are enrolled as a junior or senior in high school. You will be a nondegree-seeking UAB student. (Check with your high school guidance counselor regarding eligibility.)
What to do:
- Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and a score of at least 25 on the ACT or 1140 on the SAT.
- Ask your high school to mail your official transcript directly to UAB Undergraduate Admission.
- Ask the appropriate testing agency to send your official ACT or SAT score report directly to UAB Undergraduate Admission.
- Provide a written statement of support from your parent or guardian.
- Provide written approval from a representative of your high school. The letter should name the UAB course(s) in which you plan to enroll.
Early AdmissionWho: Exceptional high school students may apply prior to graduation if they can prove that enrolling at UAB will enhance their educational experiences beyond what is available in high school. Applicants for early admission intend to leave high school after completing the junior year to begin full-time study as degree-seeking UAB students.
What to do:
- Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and a score of at least 25 on the ACT or 1140 on the SAT.
- Ask your high school to mail your official transcript directly to UAB Undergraduate Admission. (If you are applying for admission early, you can send a transcript after your junior year. If accepted, you must send a final official transcript upon graduation.)
